How we treat the space in which we live determines exactly how long we live and what quality of life we enjoy.

The print industry has had one of the worst environmental reputations out there... and it is well deserved. At Intuitive Design, treatment of our environment is part of the decision-making process when choosing business partners. It is this environmental consideration that helps to set us apart.

• We are able to recommend and arrange for papers that are recycled, 100% post-consumer waste, non-chlorine bleached, and, better yet, tree-free alternatives.
• We understand the use of non-toxic inks, binders and chemical processes that keep not only the environment safe, but the people who work with them safe as well.
• We network with industry professionals who exhibit the same environmental standards without sacrificing quality results.
• We take into account the use of fuels in the many aspects of the print industry… from the electricity used to run the presses, produce the papers, inks, binders, etc. to the fossil fuels used for transportation. We support the use of alternate fuels in every aspect and encourage both our vendors and our clients to do the same.

This being said, we recognize that not every client can afford the premium price that environmental conservation calls for at this point in time. So, we work with our clients to get the most positive impact for their money.

It is through bringing awareness that environment conservation choices exist that we expand the effects of supply and demand; thereby lowering the premium price and causing these practices to be the norm instead of the exception. Since, we obviously are not going to convince anyone to voluntarily raise their prices on the polluting products and practices that cost us our health and the health of the world in which we live; we must make them unprofitable.

Digital services also have an impact on environmental conservation because of the vast amount of electricity needed to create and experience the results (among other things). Electricity is not the “clean energy” we have been lead to believe because 1) it is most often created from burning fossil fuels such as coal; 2) it generates electromagnetic fields in the transport of that electricity; and 3) the “dirty” electricity that is left over when used is disruptive to the human body (and all other life as we know it). Of course, the materials used to make batteries, film, CDs, DVDs, etc. are also a consideration.

We strongly recommend the support of alternative sources of electricity, such as wind power and hydrogen production (from wind-generated electricity and water), biomass, and biodiesel. These sources combined with updated technology for transmission (to cut the extent of electromagnetic fields) and neutralizing the return product are attainable goals within the next 50 years... and the sooner we get started, the better off we all will be.

FYI: Everyone can offset their electricity usage with wind power right now by purchasing TRCs (Tradeable Renewable Certificates) that finance the production of wind farms. We also recommend the monitoring and harmonizing of “dirty” electricity at the end user’s location to minimize the effects of electromagnetic fields.
